And so begins Jim’s story of growing up in the foster system, unknowing but always aware that some part of his history, himself, was missing. He shares with simple honesty his search for his birth family and descent into addiction and mental illness. With each slip into darkness that left him defeated but still breathing, he would ask: Why me? His search for answers ultimately led him on a path of healing that has redefined his life and reframed the question he still lives by today.

Jim Swain is an inspirational speaker and active gardener. He lives each day with thankfulness and hope after navigating a lifetime of addiction, mental illness and a dysfunctional childhood. He lives with his wife Faye in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Canada.
